Nooks comeback falls short against Bucs
Tim Barto-Chinooks
The weather in Chugiak on Wednesday evening was drizzly and gray, then the bright sun came out for a while and brought some warmth with it . . . only to fade back into a cool, gray night. And that pretty much describes how the Chinooks' game went against the Anchorage Bucs. After the visitors batted in the top of the fifth, the score was eight to zero. The Fish managed to put only one hit on the board and already gone through three pitchers. But in the bottom of the fifth, the Chinook offense started to come alive, plating two runs on two hits. In the next inning, Chugiak-Eagle River exploded with seven hits and five runs, bringing the home team to within one run. But, then things went gray again as the Bucs brought runners across home four times in the last three innings while the Chinooks brought home none. In all, the Chinooks' six pitchers gave up 17 free bases (15 walks and 2 hit batters) and 14 hits. The offense collected a season-high 13 hits, including two doubles and a triple. Center fielder Jayden Hill of Arkansas State University went three for four, while Jordan Jaffe, Jacob Hayes, and David Broughton each collected two hits. Final score: Bucs 12, Chinooks 7.
