Game 19 Summary
Chinooks Fall One Run Short Against Bucs
Sunday afternoon's game against the league-leading Anchorage Bucs was a close one. Chinooks' starter, righthander Troy Lopez, went five innings, giving up four runs on only six hits. He was relieved by Louis Zulaica, who moved to the mound from the second base position, and Peyton Niemann. The Chinook relievers kept the Bucs scoreless through the end of the game, while the Chugiak-Eagle River offense made a valiant effort to come back.
After being held scoreless through six innings, the Fish got things going in the seventh after catcher Dustin Isanogle, a junior out of Messiah College, singled, and Zulaica walked. That brought first baseman Jordan Jaffe to the plate, who promptly hit a triple, scoring Isanogle and Zulaica. When the relay home got away from the Bucs' catcher, Jaffe made a dash for home, only to be thrown out in a close plate at the plate. The Chinooks added a single run in the eighth when Isanogle singled home Oliver Degenhardt, who led off the inning with a walk.
It was a gutsy comeback, coming back from a four run deficit to make it a one run ballgame. The Chinooks outhit the Bucs eight to seven but failed to capitalize, leaving ten runners on base, seven of them in scoring position.
Final score: Chinooks 3, Bucs 4.
The Chinooks are now seven and twelve this ABL season. Their next game is on Monday in Chugiak against the Peninsula Oilers. First pitch is at 6:00 pm.
