Oilers top Chinooks on Military Appreciation Night
The Peninsula Oilers defeated the CER Chinooks 9-0 on Military Appreciation Night at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak Wednesday. The pre-game ceremony honored military service, past and present, of many of the local , loyal Chinook faithful and is always one of the highlights of the summer for the CER community at Lee Jordan Field. While those that have defended our freedom were honored before the game, the Oilers provided ample pitching and defense to hand the Chinooks their third consecutive shutout. The Oilers would score 3 in the first inning off of starter Frankie Gulko, who would log 6 complete innings, but Gulko would settle in and only allow 1 more over his next 4 innings. The Peninsula club would use four different pitchers in scattering 8 CER hits. The hit total broke a two game streak of only mustering 3 hits in the two previous shutouts tossed at the Fish. Seven separate Nooks would log base hits, with RJ Rickabaugh the lone mulithit Chinook with a 2 for 5 night at the plate. The Nooks would leave 12 runners on base and commit 5 errors in the field. After playing 9 games in the last 7 days, the Chinooks will appreciate having Thursday as an off day before their next contest on Friday in Palmer against the Matsu Miners at 6 pm.
